Participants at the workshop will work to establish strategic directions for the development of the FFO, focusing on improving the production and enhancement of peasant knowledge. Specific objectives include strengthening political mobilization, improving the FFO’s methodology, promoting production, identifying elements for producing policy briefs, projecting major themes for knowledge production from 2024, and proposing a timetable for implementing the workshop’s recommendations.

This workshop follows the ROPPA Board of Directors’ seminar held in July 2022 in Guinea Bissau, which confirmed the importance of continuing to drive and energize the FFO. The seminar’s conclusions also highlighted the need to mobilize and involve ROPPA-elected members more in the Observatory’s development.

The regional workshop will include plenary sessions and group work, supported by communications prepared in advance by the regional core team and some national platforms. The preparation and management methodology for the workshop includes online meetings to define the progress of work, organize communications, and develop group work facilitation tools.

Around 40 participants, including observatory focal points, national platform coordinators, regional core team members, administrators, technical and financial partners, and resource persons, will gather at the workshop. Discussions will alternate between plenary sessions and group work, supported by communications.

The regional FFO assessment and energizing workshop represents a crucial step in strengthening the Observatory and its impact on the region’s agricultural and food policies. The expected outcomes of this event will contribute to the implementation of policies promoting the sustainable transformation of family farms and the development of the network and peasant organizations’ activities.
