Series Introduction
Set in the vibrant fictional village of Kianda, this engaging radio drama follows Ismael, Leila, Faizal, and Mariamo as they navigate the everyday realities of smallholder farming in Mozambique. Through humour, relatable challenges, and practical lessons, the series explores climate-smart agriculture, soil conservation, natural fertilizers, crop rotation, pest management, and smart agribusiness planning.
Each episode highlights best practices promoted by the FAO’s EU-funded PROMOVE Agribiz programme, showing how knowledge, teamwork, and innovation can strengthen resilience and improve livelihoods. Kianda proves that when communities learn together, every farming challenge can become an opportunity.
Episode 1: Planting the Seeds of Agribusiness
Ismael dreams of transforming his small farm into a thriving agribusiness and encourages his wife Leila to join him in planning for a better future. With support from their friend Faizal, they begin studying market demand, saving for certified seeds, and keeping farm records. Along the way, they discover that success in farming starts with careful planning, smart investments, and strong partnerships at home and in the community.
