The first Global Forum of the UN Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF) 2019-2028 is taking place online from 19 to 22 September 2022.
Since its launch in 2019, the UN Decade has been promoting integrated actions supported by cross-sectoral policies that address sustainable development’s environmental, economic and social dimensions.
Co-organized by FAO-IFAD, the Forum will leverage the experiences of different actors to take stock of the achievements and challenges faced since launching the UNDFF.
The forum will also serve as a platform for sharing lessons, experiences, challenges, and outcomes of the UNDFF implementation, across regions, that will guide and shape the UNDFF agenda in years to come.
Objectives of the Forum
- Exchange good practices, successful processes, experiences and concrete policy solutions for the support of family farming
- Highlight the key emerging policy/technical areas, actions and instruments to enable family farmers to achieve diversified, innovative and dynamic farming systems
Scale out and scale up efforts to promote multistakeholder partnerships and cooperation for the promotion, development and effective implementation of policies, strategies and programmes, enabling family farmers to fulfil their transformative potential.

We would like to highlight in particular two sessions in relation with Communication for Development:
On 20 September, session 4 on strengthening family farmers’ organizations and capacities to generate knowledge, represent farmers and provide inclusive services in the urban-rural continuum (Pillar 4 of the Global Action Plan on Family Farming).
Gissela Davila, from CIESPAL, will make a presentation on behalf of the communication for development regional initiatives in Africa (YenKasa Africa), Asia (ComDev Asia) and Latin America (Onda Rural).
On 22 September, in the closing session on key findings and recommendations, Dr Maria Stella Tirol and Mario Acunzo will share the impact of rural communication services for family farming.
All the sessions will have simultaneous interpretation in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian
