Exploring the views of 3,500 small scale farmers ahead of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit

September 20, 2021 at 8 am EDT (GMT -4)

The 2021 UN Food Systems Summit has been called “the People’s Summit.” To amplify the voices of small-scale farmers and other rural people in sub-Saharan Africa, Farm Radio International partnered with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Vision Canada, and the Canadian Food Security Policy Group to conduct a series of On Air Dialogues.

Thesis conversations took place in June 2021 over the radio and via mobile phones. Their aim was to create a platform for those who are often excluded from global discussions and decision-making that impacts their lives – small-scale farmers and other rural people, in particular women and young people . Small-scale farmers and other rural people have a wealth of experience to share on how to transform food systems to be more equitable, sustainable, and resilient . Their voices are vital to the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit.

Join us on September 20th at 8 am EDT, ahead of the Food Systems Summit, to hear the results of this initiative, as we launch the On Air Dialogues: Listening to Rural People report and share the views expressed by 3,500 small-scale farmers and others in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda about their hopes and needs for the future of food systems.
